April 24, 2022, kicked off the unofficial start to the race season with the Paris to Ancaster race. The weather was great and NCCH was out in force. We had Athletes competing at all four events as well as NCCH had Volunteers on the course and running the Bike Wash.
The 100km event saw the students become masters when both Vanessa M. and Maria M. crossed the finish line before Cyril M in the overall standings. Vanessa M. and Maria M. finished first and second respectively in the 17-18 female category.
In the 70km event Logan C. finished first overall in the 16-19 male category and had the eleventh fastest time overall.
The 45km event featured 22 NCCH riders. In the hotly contested boys 11-15 category we had five Athletes, Mathias L(3), Matthew P(6), Matthew M(7), Sam M(8), and Jaxson V(10), in the top 10. Mathias' time was the fifth fastest time overall. Coach Kyle finished tenth in the Men's 40-49 category and Coach Amy finished fourth in the women's 40-49 category. Another notable finish was Katie V, Jaxson V's Mom who crossed the finish line sixth in the women's 40-49 category racing as an independent. We think next year we need to get her into NCCH blue!
The 20km event also featured a great showing of NCCH riders, coaches and parents. The event was self timed and I know several Athletes set personal bests on this course.
Thanks to all the athletes, parents, coaches, parents, friends, family members, students and anyone else that I left out that helped at the Bike Wash. It was a huge success and NCCH raised over $4000 and will be using those funds to purchase an inflatable landing mat to help our Participants/Riders/Athletes during skills development.
A very special, massive, huge thanks to Steph, Katherine and Kris. They did all the heavy lifting making this event a success, from organizing and planning the bike wash, to running it the day of, and even jumping in and washing bikes.
Without the amazing Volunteers and Staff we have, NCCH would not be the great organization it is today. The work, planning, logistics, training, that all the Volunteers and Staff do behind the scenes, the part most people never see, is the reason NCCH is able to put out an amazing end product, and set up all of our riders, no matter what program they are enrolled in, for success.
Here to give you updates on NCCH news, accomplishments, race results, and cycling advice. Stay tuned!
